Community Solar Day - November 20, 2011

The XSeed Energy solar team participated in the worldwide Community Solar Day with a photograph in front of our dream project at the Michigan Theater.

The solar team included representatives from Clean Energy Coalition, City of Ann Arbor, Michigan Theater and The Green Panel.

As the protesters leading the Occupy Wall Street movement decry the big banks that crashed the economy, foreclose people's homes and continue to finance mega fossil fuel projects like the Tar Sands, community solar represents one path forward: clean energy created for and by the people. Community solar projects are taking the first steps toward a future where people can move their money out of low-yield savings accounts and into safe and high-yield solar investments that lower carbon emissions and create green jobs and local prosperity.

Using funds from community donations and grants, XSeed Energy is a grassroots initiative in which residents, businesses and others work together to develop highly visible, renewable energy projects. Proceeds from financial incentives and donations are recycled back into an “energy bank” to fund ongoing renewable energy installations throughout Ann Arbor. The project’s goal is to seed community power projects.

Hot Off The Press!

Before we have even made an official announcement about our first project, we've already received multiple inquiries from local media asking for more details about what we're doing here at XSeed Energy! So we figured now is a great time to "officially" announce our plans with the Michigan Theater!

In case you aren't familiar with Clean Energy Coalition's XSeed Energy program, our goal is to help move Ann Arbor towards renewable energy sources, including solar, wind and other technologies. The energy being generated by the XSeed Energy project will help reduce the city's reliance on fossil fuels. The application for our first installation were made available in May of 2010 to commercial property owners and tenants in the City of Ann Arbor, and we are excited to announce our plans for a first installation on the Michigan Theater!

So please, help us spread the word about Ann Arbor's community power project!
Check back soon for more exciting updates!

Wouldn't It Be Nice?

Imagine Our Community
Powered by the Sun

The Problem
Over 97% of Ann Arbor’s energy comes from non-renewable sources. It’s time to take our energy future into our own hands and create local renewable sources of energy.

The Solution
Clean Energy Coalition, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, has launched the XSeed Energy project to create community supported energy installations in the Ann Arbor area. In 2010, XSeed Energy will develop an initial, highly visible solar installation in the Ann Arbor community, utilizing funding from community donations and grants.

Proceeds from financial incentives and donations will be recycled back into a ‘Solar Bank’ to fund ongoing solar installations. Our goal is to ‘seed’ community-owned energy projects in Ann Arbor.
